The civil authority linked to the Sudan Liberation Movement announced on Monday that a devastating landslide had completely wiped out Tarsin village in Jebel Marra, Central Darfur State.

According to the authority, heavy rains during the last week of August triggered massive landslides that buried the entire community. Preliminary information suggests that more than 1,000 residents perished, with only one survivor reported.

Tarsin, known as one of Jebel Marra’s key citrus-growing regions, now lies in ruins. The authority appealed to the United Nations and humanitarian organizations to help in recovering the victims’ bodies and providing assistance in the aftermath of the disaster.
