After more than two years of closure, Khartoum International Airport has reopened to civilian flights. The symbolic first landing by a Badr Airlines aircraft marked the return of civil aviation to Sudan’s capital, signaling progress in post-war recovery efforts.

The Civil Aviation Authority confirmed the reopening in an official statement, calling it “an important step in the recovery of Sudan’s aviation sector.”

The airport was one of the early casualties of the April 2023 conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, suffering severe destruction when it became part of the front line. Despite recent RSF drone attacks, the government has pressed ahead with restoration works following the army’s complete control of Khartoum State.

Officials say the move aims to normalize life, facilitate the return of citizens, and revive economic activity in the capital.
