Sudan–Turkey Talks Focus on Reconstruction, Gold Sector, and Possible Debt Relief
In Istanbul, Sudan’s State Minister of Finance, Mohamed Nour Abdel Daem, held talks with Turkey’s Central Bank Governor, Dr. Fatih Karahan, about Sudan’s fragile economic situation and avenues for enhanced cooperation.
The Sudanese delegation detailed severe destruction across infrastructure and financial institutions, citing collapsed bridges, damaged hospitals and schools, and a banking sector strained by war. Abdel Daem stressed that rebuilding these systems—and reinforcing the new civilian administration—requires strong international support, particularly from Turkey.
The two countries examined prospects in the minerals sector, including Turkish backing to improve gold refining capacity and achieve internationally recognized certification.
Turkey reaffirmed its support for Sudan, promising technical assistance and training while considering measures to address Sudan’s outstanding debts. Both sides committed to strengthening their economic partnership as Sudan works to recover from the impacts of the conflict.
