FIFA Selects Sudanese Referee Shanteer for 2026 World Cup Duties
Sudanese referee Mahmoud Shanteer has been chosen by FIFA’s Referees Committee to officiate matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking a significant milestone for Sudanese football officiating on the global stage.
Shanteer is among a group of African referees selected for the tournament, including Egypt’s Amin Omar, Somalia’s Omar Artan, Mauritania’s Dahane Beida, Algeria’s Mustapha Ghorbal, Sudan’s Ismail Mahmoud, Morocco’s Jalal Jayed, Gabon’s Pierre Atcho, Congo’s Jean-Jacques Ndala, and Senegal’s Issa Sy.
The selected officials will take part in a joint training camp with Asian referees in Doha, Qatar, from 23 to 27 February 2026, as FIFA completes its final preparations for the World Cup.
