The African Union has welcomed Sudan’s peace initiative, praising it as a detailed framework that reflects a clear understanding of the country’s ongoing crisis. AU Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Yusuf highlighted the initiative’s aim to end hostilities, reduce violence, address humanitarian needs, and protect Sudan’s territorial integrity and unity.

Yusuf stressed that the initiative’s comprehensive approach—covering political, security, and humanitarian aspects—provides a credible foundation for long-term peace. He noted that engaging constructively with the plan is essential for halting the conflict, restoring security, and strengthening national cohesion.

The initiative emphasizes an immediate and inclusive ceasefire, civilian protection, unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, support for displaced populations, disarmament, reform of the security sector, and national reconstruction. Yusuf said these steps are critical for rebuilding trust, mending social divisions, and fostering a unified Sudanese state.

Additionally, the AU highlighted the importance of transitional justice, reparations, inclusive political participation, and reconciliation in ensuring lasting peace. Yusuf confirmed the AU’s readiness to coordinate closely with the UN, Arab League, IGAD, and other international partners to support Sudan’s path toward democracy, stability, and regional security.
