Port Sudan – Air ticket prices to and from Port Sudan Airport witnessed an unprecedented rise last weekend, affected by exchange rate fluctuations in the parallel market and the high cost of air operation, which sparked a wave of dissatisfaction among travelers.

According to travel agency data, the price of a one-way ticket from Port Sudan to Entebbe Airport in Uganda reached about 2 million Sudanese pounds, while the return value reached 1.5 million pounds. The ticket to Cairo also jumped to one million pounds, and the return ticket to 850 thousand pounds.

In a remarkable development, ticket prices to UAE airports were canceled after the UAE authorities announced at the beginning of this August that they would stop air dealings with Sudanese airlines, forcing Sudanese travelers to head via Saudi Arabia and Qatar to reach the UAE by land or air.

Egyptian and Ethiopian Airlines have suspended their flights to Port Sudan since May 2025, following the drone attack on the city, without specifying a date for the resumption of flights.

On August 14 and 15, the exchange rate in the parallel market recorded a new high, reaching 3,280 thousand pounds for sale and 3,150 thousand pounds for purchase, after a period of relative calm that lasted two weeks.

In an attempt to curb the parallel market, the Prime Minister held a meeting with the Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance in early August, in which it was decided to stop car importers’ dependence on the parallel market, as part of measures aimed at controlling monetary policies and reducing inflation.
