Government Clears Khartoum of Armed Groups in Major Security Operation

Sudan’s government says more than 3,000 militants have been evacuated from Khartoum in a sweeping effort to restore order in the capital.
Ibrahim Jaber, Sovereignty Council member and head of the Khartoum Reconstruction Committee, said the decision to relocate combat forces followed direct orders from Army Chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan. Police and security forces are now deployed at 13 state entry points to take over responsibility for protecting Khartoum.
Officials stressed that many informal settlements had become hubs for armed activity and looting, worsening insecurity in the city. They also confirmed that ministries will be relocated outside central Khartoum, with only the Interior and Health Ministries remaining.
Defense Minister Lt. Gen. Hassan Dawood Kabroon said 3,226 armed men were moved to designated sites outside urban centers and confirmed that the Joint Force of Armed Struggle Movements had also been instructed to withdraw. He noted that extensive demining operations are underway to secure neighborhoods and enable displaced residents to return.
